If I activate Hanewata's effect, then I use Soul Charge, will I take the damage from Soul Charge? Why or why not? Please help. : )

I believe you don't take the damage.
1. The cost is before the semi-colon, so the cost cannot be negated.
2. The losing life points part of Soul Charge is part of the effect, rather than the cost.

That's exactly what my thought process was, and then I thought, "Why hasn't anyone else done this?"

Because Hanewata is no use other in that aspect. Unless you can find a deck around light synchros, this card might be pretty damn good.

Also, you have to discard in chain to Soul Charge. But soul charge has to target the monsters you want to summon before the resolution of its effect, so you can't just summon Hanewata right after discarding it.

Grapha, did you get your answer? If yes, please mark it as "best answer" so we can put this as solved and lock it.

I guess Hanewata won't even work if you wanna stop Soul Charge with it:
